Dear Friend of Community Music:
The Windham Community Bands are very excited about this year’s annual fundraiser; themed “Out of the
Darkness and Into the Light” and you are invited! Our theme was chosen to recognize the significance of
the total eclipse of the sun happening on April 8th, 2024. A solar eclipse is a rare event when the Moon
passes between the Earth and the Sun, thereby obscuring the view of the sun from a small part of earth.
We have chosen a repertoire of music that is inspired by the Sun, the Moon, light and dark. We’ll be
performing a piece by composer Philip Sparke from which our theme was inspired, and a fun and different
composition byAlex Shapiro called “Lights Out”! Please take this great opportunity to discover the bands
and enjoy a fun musical event. Our 24th annual music event will be held at Windham’s Castleton Banquet
and Conference Center on Saturday, April 6th, from 5:00 to 9:00pm. This year we’ll be changing up the
format starting with cocktails and food stations while The Windham Swing Band entertains us. This will be
followed by a performance by The Windham Concert Band while the audience enjoys a dessert station.
We’ll raffles and door prizes throughout the evening.
2023 was an exciting year for the WCB groups; the Windham Concert Band attracted many new members
and continues to grow musically as a wind ensemble. Under the outstanding direction of Music Director, Dr.
Spencer Aston, and Assistant Director, Pam Choinski!, the band performed numerous concerts including
the an exchange concert with The Amherst Town Band, a busy summer concert series. Every year both
groups get into the holiday spirit with the annual Holiday Concert at Windham High School. Additional
highlights for the Swing Band, directed by Rob Daisy assisted by Rob Fogg included concerts in Windham,
Short Sands Beach - York, ME and several other locations in the Merrimack Valley.
As a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, we rely on your generosity. We are very grateful for your
donations, the financial support of the Town of Windham, and the income we receive from our
performances. Our expenses include compensation for our outstanding music directors, new sheet music
to keep our performances fresh and exciting, and operating expenses such as sound system maintenance
and insurance. We hope you will join us for the April 6 th celebration of music at Castleton and that
we can count on your support with a generous contribution.
